Naturally Perfect Dolls Shark Tank Update

How often have you noticed kids playing with dolls? Have you noticed similarities between most of the dolls you see in the market?

Well, if you are unsure, I would like to bring something to notice to you. Most of the dolls available in the market are designed with white skin tone and straight hair, prioritizing one race.

However, we all have different skin tones, heights, shapes and sizes, and hair of different configurations as a human.

Naturally Perfect Dolls are dolls that look more realistic and represent peoples of different cultures and races. The firm behind Naturally perfect dolls aims to create dolls that resemble actual humans.

Naturally perfect dolls started a Kickstarter campaign where they generated more than $25,000 in less than 24 hours.

They were highly motivated by the response after the Kickstarter campaign and reached out to Shark Tank for additional investment to promote their product.

Who are the Founders of Naturally Perfect Dolls?

Naturally Perfect Dolls was founded by Angelica and Jason Sweeting, based in Miami, Florida.

The primary goal of Naturally Perfect Dolls was to provide children from various ethnic backgrounds with dolls that accurately reflected their features, facial features, and hairstyles, who would be encouraged to accept themselves and be diverse.

Angelica Sweeting is a person of color, and so is her husband; however, when she tried to buy her kid a doll, she couldn’t find any doll that resembled a person of color.

This was the moment when she decided to create Naturally Perfect Dolls. Every doll in the market showcased a picture-perfect, which was not a real-life scenario.

The intended demographic was African American and Latino girls, who were told that they were Barbie dolls and that having white skin and yellow hair is not necessary for beauty.

Naturally Perfect Dolls Before Shark Tank

The founders of Naturally Perfect Dolls, Angelica and Jason, created the dolls to educate girls of different colors and races to feel and experience they are beautiful.

The creators wanted naturally perfect dolls to reflect the actual human being rather than being picture-perfect.

Generally, a doll looks like perfect white skin, straight hair, glossy eyes, and painted nails which was not the case with naturally perfect dolls.

Angelica had 2 daughters, and she was worried about her daughters getting the wrong and unrealistic idea of beauty.

The founder worked on Naturally Perfect Dolls to make them a role models for young girls.

The creators of Naturally Perfect Dolls aimed to change the misconception about beauty among young girls worldwide. They wanted to spread the message that everyone is beautiful in their way.

However, it was difficult for Jason and Angelica to do things independently as they had invested much money and time in their project. It may not be a large sum for a business, but it was their life savings.

Hence, they approached Shark Tank to present their product and seek further investment in Naturally perfect dolls to promote their product and message worldwide.

How Was the Shark Tank Pitch of Naturally Perfect Dolls?

Jason and Anjelica appeared on the Shark Tank show during season 8 and episode 12, seeking an investment of $200,000 for a 20% stake in Naturally Perfect Dolls from the shark.

They started their presentation by informing sharks that their dolls were designed for girls of color to make them feel beautiful.

The sharks were impressed by the concept of Naturally Perfect Dolls. Anjelica stated they developed the dolls to make every girl globally feel and realize they are beautiful.

Jason stated that the dolls were developed with a face of brown color, larger lips, brown eyes, full nose, and cute cheekbones. Furthermore, the curly hair and washable nature of the dolls give a more realistic experience.

The founders said that they started a Kickstarter Crowdfunding for Naturally Perfect Dolls in 2015 and raised $85,743 to kick off their idea.

Every doll of Naturally Perfect Dolls has a different story to tell to the young girls. The Sweeting couple aims to provide a more realistic and optimistic view of the world to the girls with Naturally Perfect Dolls to boost their self-confidence.

They need investment from Sharks to start mass production and distribution of Naturally Perfect Dolls. They offer a 20% stake in Naturally Perfect Dolls for $200,000.

The Sharks asked what the price of each doll developed by Naturally Perfect Dolls was. Angelica informed that Naturally Perfect Dolls develops 4 varieties, and each of the four versions is priced at $85 per doll.

The Sharks objects to the price tag, and Daymond Joh questions them if any larger shops are interested in Naturally Perfect Dolls.

Angelica keeps her focus that their dolls are aimed towards children from age 4 to 13, and the majority of dolls available in the market barely represent 90% of the world population.

Daymond John gets impressed with the ideas and concept of Naturally Perfect Dolls and invests $200,000 for a 30% stake in Naturally Perfect Dolls.

Did Naturally Perfect Dolls get an Offer on Shark Tank?

The Sweeting Couples reached Shark Tank Seeking an investment of $200,000 for a 20% stake in Naturally Perfect Dolls.

Though the sharks were impressed by the couple’s idea, Lori decided to quit as she believed it would take a long time for the product to reach the market. Also, she stated that there was a lot of competition, making it unwise for her to invest in the product.

Robert from the Shark Tank quit stating that if the concept goes well, large firms might start producing such dolls in mass, negatively hitting the business. Also, he pointed the high price tag of Naturally Perfect Dolls.

Daymond John negotiated for a 33.33% stake in Naturally Perfect Dolls for $200,000 and finally settled for a 30% stake in Naturally Perfect Dolls for $200,000.
