Shark Tank episode 921 features sisters Katherine Saltzberg and Lauri Fraser negotiating for Hugo’s Amazing Tape.
Hugo Maisnik, the father of these girls, accidentally invented the adhesive-free “tape” in 2002.
There is a lot of utility in Hugo’s Amazing Tape, and it’s quite popular with sewers. It is exceptionally durable, self-adhesive, and reusable.
Hugo was “flooded” with offers to distribute the invention after first showing the tape at INPEX (an inventor’s expo).
The inventor refused to give away his invention and therefore marketed it himself. His daughters now manage the company.
Both women come from an acting background. The actress played the 16-year-old daughter of actor Brian Dennehy in the ABC sitcom Star of the Family.
Lauri’s filmography includes animated features and shorts. The last film in which she appeared was Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, in which she played Mrs. Olsen.
Hugo’s Amazing Tape comes in rolls of 50 feet and is available in 1/2 inch, 1 inch, and 2-inch widths. Prices range between $12.99 and $15.99.
You can currently buy Hugo’s Amazing Tape Shark from Amazon and other eCommerce websites, such as Walmart.com.
It isn’t on store shelves yet, but Saltzberg and Fraser might be able to use a Shark to help them.
Will a Shark consider this product to be incredible?

Who Is The Founder Of Hugo’s Amazing Tape?
Hugo Maisnik worked for his father’s printing business while growing up. The inspiration came to him when he picked up his father’s packages for his printing business and saw that all the contents had been destroyed except for a single piece of plastic.
He was inspired by the section, imagining an extremely hard tape and the Amazing Tape concept. Hugo searched for a flexing tape suitable for wrapping posters and reels of thick paper.
After experimenting with different plastic widths, finding the perfect plastic width took him a while.
He toured trade exhibits, living rooms, and fairs across the country to share his video with the world. He invited everyone to feel the tape at each event.
He acquired a sizable collection of tapes for which he frequently sold the amount he had with him. Many people were astonished by the versatility of his tapes.
Hugo’s Amazing Mask made its world premiere at the INPEX convention in 2002. Maisnik got numerous proposals from dealers following the debut but elected to continue operating independently of the corporation.
Hugo’s Amazing Tape was introduced to Amazon in 2014. Between 2015 and 2017, they generated $500,000 in revenue and $27,500 in revenue from 2017 to July 2018.
Hugo’s Amazing Tape Before Shark Tank
Hugo Maisnik has always been a dreamer and innovator. The idea for his Amazing Tape came to him after he received a shipment with all of its contents destroyed except for one piece of plastic at his father’s printing shop.
This plastic scrap inspired Hugo to create the idea for Hugo’s Amazing Tape, a strong tape without glue.
He sold the non-adhesive, transparent tape at trade shows and in living rooms across the country.
The Saltsburg and Frasier daughters of Hugo saw their parents go to great lengths to ensure that Hugo’s Amazing Tape was a success.
The Shark Tank welcomes two entrepreneurs with a new product inspired by their fathers.
Despite the death of their father last year, Hugo’s daughters are carrying on their father’s mission.
The two actresses hope the Sharks can provide them with investment funding and valuable business advice.
The business is Hugo’s Amazing Tape. They are seeking $50,000 for 50% ownership in the company. The product is tape.
However, this tape is remarkable and can resolve any of your sticky issues.
The tape adheres only to itself since it is self-adhesive. Kathryn describes it as “super-strong.”
Lauri and Kathryn repeatedly pull the tape, demonstrating its tenacity. The veins protrude from the necks of each woman, and they do pull. The tape, crimped but not broken, falls as they unwind.
Lauri says it will remain intact until it is dismantled. Lauri throws a few books wrapped in the tape into the air, catches them, and effortlessly unwinds them. Enough with the madness! Kevin screams.
However, there is more lunacy – the tape leaves no sticky residue. The tape is remarkable in that it returns to its original state just as it was.
Hugo’s Amazing Tape is incredibly versatile and has a plethora of applications.
They will demonstrate various applications! You can use it to secure the contents of your potluck, ensuring that nothing spills in the car. It is freezer and microwave safe.
Additionally, it wraps around embroidery threads.
Hugo’s Amazing Tape is ideal for use around plants and ties together wires and extension cords.
The two women summon Mark’s attention by elevating a basketball wrapped in an air pump. That brings a big laugh from Mark.
Hugo’s Amazing Tape can even be wrapped around wrapping paper! There are countless applications and markets, and they are a year-round item.
They are aware that the Sharks will consume it; thus, they require samples?
How Was The Shark Tank Pitch Of Hugo’s Amazing Tape?
Katherine and Lauri reach the Shark Tank show seeking $50,000 for a 50% stake in Hugo’s Amazing Tape.
The videos display the tape’s adaptability and strength theatrically and use various images.
They distribute samples once they are finished explaining their product. The sharks tamper with samples.
According to the ladies, their father, Hugo, invented the Tape. His patent expired with him as he passed away earlier this year.
Each roll of tape costs the women $1.27, and they sell it for $12.99. They sold $500,000 in the past two years, but only $27,500 this year.
They sell their products online through their website. Mark is confident they are being ripped off since the goods come from Taiwan.
Their only aim is for the product to flourish so that they can preserve their father’s legacy. Both women are successful in their businesses and occupations.
Kevin believes their pitch was excellent awful theater, but he believes it is uninvestable; he is out.
Robert is unsure of the location of the business; he is also out.
Barbara informs the women that they should simply sell the business.
Then, Lori and Mark offer $100,000 to purchase the entire business, which the women accept.
What Happened To Hugo’s Amazing Tape After Shark Tank?
Lori and Mark did purchase the company, and they promptly blew it apart. Hugo’s is available at Walmart and Amazon.
There are numerous speculations that Mark and Lori sold the firm, but I have another theory.
The business is still mentioned on Mark and Lori’s websites, and a reputable business website shows Katherine and Lauri as executive team members.
Mark and Lori are also listed as investors on the same website. Keep in mind that Katherine and Lauri are actresses, but I don’t think they’re stupid.
Why would somebody sell a business with well over a half-million dollars in annual revenue for $100,000?
As endearing as the idea of maintaining their father’s legacy is, I’m sure he wouldn’t want his daughters to be remembered for being knuckleheads.
By 2021, the company will have generated $3 million in revenue. I believe this was a staged pitch that was more akin to television than reality!
Hugo’s Amazing Tape Shark Tank Update
Both sisters have extensive theater experience, so it’s an impressive performance.
Katharine is best known for playing the role of Brian Dennehy’s 16-year-old singing daughter Jennie Lee Krebs in the sitcom Star of the Family.
She was also a backup singer on Jimmy Buffett’s 1990 tour Jump Up! Laurie, her older sister, is also a voice actor (Natasha in Rocky and Bullwinkle and Mrs. Olsen in Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, to name a few).
Hugo Maisnik is the tape’s title after their father, most famous for creating the iconic Los Angeles billboards that featured the sex symbol, Angelyne, in the 1980s. Hugo is a “really quirky, bored prankster,” Angelyne recently described.
Is Hugo’s Amazing Tape Still In Business?
Following its appearance on Shark Tank, Hugo’s Amazing Tape disappeared for a time. However, with the help of Mark and Lori, Katherine and Lauri were able to bring the Amazing Tape back to life and preserve Hugo’s legacy.
You can find Hugo’s Amazing Tape at Walmart, retail stores, online, and other small businesses.
