What Happened To AirBedz After Shark Tank?

What Is AirBedz?

AirBedz is the world’s first truck bed system with an air mattress that delivers a restful night’s sleep to anyone who enjoys spending time in the great outdoors. The revolutionary design of the mattress utilizes both heavy-duty cloth material for puncture resistance and cuts on both sides of the mattress that facilitate positioning it over and over the wheel wells to create a sleeping space that utilizes both sides of the truck bed.

AirBedz can be inflated and deflated with the flick of a switch, thanks to the built-in rechargeable pump.

Who Is The Founder Of AirBedz?

The founder of AirBedz is James Pittman’s company Pittman Products International, headquartered in La Mirada, California. Pittman Products International manufactures air mattresses that provide comfort, affordability, and ease of use. The company produces mattresses for a wide range of purposes.

Airbedz is made of heavy-duty, long-lasting fabric, and they come with a built-in twelve-volt air pump that allows you to swiftly and easily inflate and deflate the mattress. If the pump’s battery needs to be recharged, it can be done by plugging it into a power outlet or using the cigarette lighter in the car to recharge it while driving.

The Airbedz inflatable air mattresses are designed specifically for fitting in the bed of a truck, with cutouts to accommodate the wheel wells at the rear of the truck. Two alternative sizes are available to accommodate truck beds that are eight and six feet long.

AirBedz Before Shark Tank

Jim Pittman, the CEO, and founder of AirBedz, went to Shark Tank to secure investment funds for the company. Jim from AirBedz, the inventor of the original truck bed air mattress, believes that he can get a $250,000 investment from Shark Tank in exchange for 15 percent ownership of the company.

The AirBedz brand of custom air mattresses is specifically designed to fit in the bed of a pickup truck. A major feature of their mattresses is that they are filled with air. This enables them to float across and above the wheel wells in the truck’s bed. A safe barrier is created, allowing the full back of the vehicle to be used to move cargo.

Their heavy-duty cloth design, coupled with their built-in pump with inflation and deflation options, produces a mattress that will provide a comfortable night’s sleep at the push of a button.

Jim hops up on top of the mattress with an example pickup truck parked to demonstrate how strong it is as he demonstrates how heavy-duty it is. Jim is familiar with the product and believes it will be a huge success. Robert, on the other hand, inquires as to “why.”

How Was The Shark Tank Pitch Of AirBedz?

James Pittman presents the AirBedz business idea to the Shark Tank panel on episode 313 of the show. James is specifically looking for a Shark partner who can assist him with scaling up his product.

James appeared on Shark Tank hoping to receive a $250,000 investment in exchange for a 15 percent interest in his company, AirBedz, which is worth $1.7 million in total.

James climbs on top of the mattress to show off its heavy-duty and robust construction, accompanied by a demonstration pick-up truck. Jim knows the product well and believes it will be a big hit with customers.

Robert believes that James is right when he mentions that the camping and outdoor recreation industry is worth $56 billion annually.

Kevin wants to know if there are different designs for different types of cars, and we say yes. James mentioned that one model fits a full-size 8-foot bed, whereas another fits a full-size 6-foot bed. James notes that they don’t have a model that matches every situation.

Barbara replies with an important question: how straightforward is it to inflate the mattress with air?

Does Barbara have the ability to carry herself like a woman? In a few seconds, James shows us that inflating the bed is straightforward: all you have to do is press a button.

The pump has the capability of inflating and deflating the mattress. Each AirBedz mattress is powered by a simple 12-volt rechargeable battery with every purchase. James estimates annual sales at roughly $210,000, with average sales of about $220,000, and Mark requests the figures.

The cost of making one Airbedz mattress ranges from $50 to $60, and it sells for between $200 and $269 in retail stores. Mark needs to know how much each unit sells at the store because this is a retail issue. The price of each unit starts at $125, although some large box stores can pay up to $140 per unit.

Barbara asks how many apartments have been sold this year after she asks how many apartments have been sold so far this year. James says that 1,700 have been sold this year, with approximately 1,600 sold the prior year.

AirBedz became the preferred sleeping arrangement for Sharks fans. Kevin believes it is too specialized for him, so he has withdrawn from the competition. Robert and Daymond have also left. Mark appreciates the merchandise, but he tells Pittman that he must “get off your ass and sell,” or he will quit.

Barbara is offering $250,000 in exchange for a 50 percent stake in the company in exchange for her offer. Pittman responds with $250,000 in exchange for 25 percent of the company’s equity, and Barbara leaves. Pittman eventually walked away from the pitch without closing a deal with any of the Sharks.

Final Deal: No deal between AirBedz and Sharks.
